Utilizing ‘Elf of the Shelf’ to support child development in positive ways
Our sixth ELF SKILLZ Lesson is all about Loving.
It means to show someone that you care!
To help develop LOVE, our Elf SKILLZ challenges are 1- Love Your Parents/Guardians, 2 – Love Your Pets, and 3 – Love Your Family.
CHALLENGE 1 – Love Your Parents/Guardians
Set up idea: Elf hugging a picture of parents/guardians and child.
“Do you know loving means? It means that you show someone you care! When you are loving then you show you care with hugs, and avoid being mean such as hitting or saying rude things. Are you loving if…
- You give your parents a big hug when you see them after school?
- You hit your parent if they say ‘no?’
- You say sweet things such as ‘good-night’ and good-morning?’
- You give your parents compliments such as ‘I like your hair today?’
Today I challenge you to be loving towards your parents or guardians. Give them hugs, say nice things, and avoid being mean.”

- You forget to feed your pet?
- You love taking your pet on a walk or playing with them daily?
- You hit your pet just because you don’t like them?
- You snuggle with your pet daily?
Today I challenge you to be loving towards your pets. Make sure they are feed and have water. Also be sure to play with them and snuggle with them.”
