Utilizing ‘Elf of the Shelf’ to support child development in positive ways
Our third ELF SKILLZ Lesson is all about Creativity!
It means to use your imagination and make something that you can then share with someone special!
To help develop creativity, our Elf SKILLZ challenges are 1- Create something for a family member, 2 – Create something for your teacher, and 3 – Create something for a friend.

CHALLENGE 1 – Create Something for a Family Member
Set up idea: Elf drawing or coloring.

- Draw pictures?
- Color in coloring books?
- Build things?
- Paint objects?
Today I challenge you to create something and give it to a relative/family member!”

CHALLENGE 2 – Create Something for Your Teacher
Set up idea: Elf baking cookies or holding a hand-made card.
“When you create something for another person, then you will brighten their day. Many teachers love creative gifts and some even keep those gifts long after you are their student. Below is a list of things you can create for your teacher. Which creative project would you like to make for your teacher…
- A painting?
- A card?
- Some decorated cookies?
- A decorated holiday ornament?
And if mom or dad is your school teacher, think about the other teachers you have in your life! Dance teacher, Sunday School teacher, Martial Arts teacher, even your sports coach!”

CHALLENGE 3 – Create Something for a Friend
Set up idea: Elf painting.
“When you create something for another person, then you will brighten their day. One of the best ways to show a friend you like them is by making something for them! Below is a list of things you can create for your friend. Which creative project would you like to make for your friend?
- A painting?
- A card?
- Some decorated cookies?
- A decorated holiday ornament?
Today I challenge you to create something and give it to your friend. Pick from the list above, or come up with your own creative idea.”
